Rebels With a Cause
We build immersive LED art installations that stop people in their tracks, open their hearts, and fill the world with wonder. Every event we light up funds free community wellbeing programs. We are the engine behind The Human Excellence Project.
What We Do
Light Rebels is a collective of artists, engineers, and dreamers who believe that extraordinary experiences change people. Lead designer Paul and Lead programmer Carl are fully committed to the cause. We design and build large-scale LED art installations for festivals, events, and public spaces. We do this to help keep The Human Excellence Project completely free.
No corporate shareholders. No profit motive. We pour every cent of our commercial work back into Light Rebels and the HEP community — because we believe cost should never be a barrier to good mental health.
From Perth's Yagan Square to festivals across Australia, our installations have stopped hundreds of thousands of people mid-stride and given them something they didn't know they needed: a moment of pure awe, a reminder that beauty still exists, and the quiet sense that the world is bigger and more magical than the daily grind suggests.

Imagine walking beneath a canopy of towering Christmas Tree neon lights, trees stretching 4 metres into the night sky, pulsing in perfect sync with the music of Christmas. Christmas Tree Lane doesn't just decorate a city, it transforms it. For Christmas 2025, Perth's Yagan Square became something otherworldly as over 250,000 people stepped into this corridor of light and felt something they won't soon forget. This is what happens when the Light Rebels, mathematics, light, and pure wonder collide.
The one that started it all. Heptatube holds a very special place in our story — it was our very first major art installation and the piece that proved what was possible. Built from 24 steel heptagon arches each standing 2.4 metres tall, the seven-sided geometry creates a structure of remarkable strength and beauty, a tunnel of light that draws you in and holds you there. Every arch is an act of purpose.
Our latest creation and quite possibly our most mesmerising yet. The Hexahedron is the cube — the next Platonic solid in our journey through the mathematics of existence. Three cubes woven inside one another, each nested within the last. At the heart sits an infinity cube, a mirror-within-a-mirror of light that has no beginning and no end. And then, just when you think you've taken it all in, it spins. This piece doesn't just stop a room. It stops time.
Inspired by the legendary Sonic Runway of Burning Man, the Lumosphere is where light and sound stop being separate things and become one. LEDs wrap both the outside and the inside, so the glow doesn't just radiate outward — it envelops you completely. Step inside and you're not watching the art anymore. You're inside it. This is one of those installations that leaves crowds completely, utterly speechless.
This is version two, and everything has levelled up. The Heptadome is now fully synchronised to a live soundscape — the light and the music breathing as one. Here's what we really want you to do: lie down, and look up. Because what happens next — the subwoofer vibrating through the floor, the synchronised light show unfolding directly above — this is something your body feels before your mind can process it. Most people don't want to leave.
Where sound and light meet wind. The Double Helix is a kinetic centrepiece of 280 mirrors suspended from the heart of the structure, turning and catching the light with every breath of air. By night, a powerful sky beam cuts upward into the darkness while the installation pulses with light and sound. By day, an intricate aboriginal roof created by artist Keehan McGuire projects his art onto the ground beneath your feet. Light as a canvas. Wind as a collaborator.
Love is all we need, and this piece says it better than words ever could. The HE-Art Tunnel is made up of 14 stunning hearts, each one hand-rolled with love and care, forming a tunnel that glows with 1,000 LEDs across both the inside and outside. It has welcomed couples on their wedding days, drawn lovers together, and stopped complete strangers in their tracks. We love this piece with everything we have, and we know you will too.
Each of the Dodecahedrons that form this piece is built from pentagons encoding the golden ratio — 1.618 — the mathematical fingerprint of the universe itself. But the name runs deeper. Aether is the fifth classical element, the quintessence, the divine material believed to fill all space beyond the terrestrial world. Unlike earth, air, fire, and water, Aether has no weight, no boundary. We didn't just name this piece. We built a portal to it.
The ultimate centrepiece for any silent disco. These jumbo LED headphones mirror exactly what the crowd is wearing — scaled up, lit up, and impossible to ignore. Each one can be programmed to match the colours of individual DJs, so as the night shifts and the channels change, the headphones change with it. Truly unique. Truly fantastic. The perfect marriage of light art and the dancefloor.
